DE&S is undergoing significant transformation to be a performance-focused organisation that delivers the best for its customers. With a steadfast focus on delivery and performance, by 2021 DE&S will display business acumen commensurate with global corporations, securing the best deals for its customers and working with suppliers to deliver the best solutions. Through its circa 12,000 people, DE&S manages the delivery of equipment and support programmes worth around £11bn per annum, as well as an operating budget of around £1bn per annum, from which maximum value must be extracted. One of the key challenges over the next few years facing senior leadership will be in continuing to embed change into the organisation in order to deliver safely, on time and on budget to Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. The Role: The Chief Financial Officer is a senior official in Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), playing an important role on the D&ES Executive Committee, supporting the Chief Executive Officer. The post carries chairmanship and membership of several internal committees, including Audit, Transformation and Information & Digital. The role is responsible for managing the financial affairs of one of the most complex, unique organisations in the United Kingdom. It is responsible for all aspects of financial management and control, including the overall budget and forecasting within DE&S. This role is both high profile and critical to the success of the organisation, and by extension is a key leader across the broader UK Defence arena. As the Senior Finance Officer in DE&S you will receive a letter of authority from the MOD Finance Director setting out the role and responsibilities that are required of you by the Department. This is a pivotal role in financial management for the MOD.
