Background & Role Purpose:


The effective and pro-active maintenance of Aviva’s applications estate is critical to Aviva’s customers and users so that they can have confidence that our IT is secure and that the applications they use will be there when we need to use them.


CIOs and business areas require transparency of reporting from IT Platforms on Run and Change performance and the issues and risks we are managing on their behalf.


You will deliver estate management activities across Global Platforms, including management of remediation of gaps across IT Platform team, as part of the overall responsibilities of the Governance & Estate Manager.


Key aspects of the role:


Each Estate Specialist will take accountability for one or more of the accountabilities below working with IT Platforms team who will carry out the bulk of the work. As a team, they will ensure all accountabilities are covered across all IT Platform teams and the IT Platforms Centre of Excellence, Release & Test:

  • Maintain accurate records of compliance with IT, BP and FRCF standards and controls across IT Platforms.
  • Remediate control gaps, by confirming that the IT Platforms teams are clear where remediation is required and track through to completion.
  • Remediate Vulnerabilities across the estate and guaranteeing the Platform team drive pro-active maintenance.
  • Guarantee maintenance of CMDB.
  • Understand the cost of the IT Platforms estate and produce options to reduce cost.
  • Own the log of Tech Debt within IT Platforms and work with CIOs on modernisation.
  • Coordinate DR planning across IT Platforms.
  • Lead on coordination of Project Y impact assessment.


Risks & Controls:

  • Maintain a single log of Risks and Issues owned by IT Platforms and checks that each item has an owner and action plan and that this is recorded on iCARE.
  • Ensure that issues and actions associated to controls / risks are remediated in a timely manner.
  • Identify, own and manage the specific key risks and/or IT controls and BP standards that you are identified as the owner and/or nominee for on iCARE.
  • Report and escalate the status of the relevant risks, controls and standards as appropriate.


Resource Complexity:

  • Accountable for working within policy and guidelines, applying technical knowledge and expertise.
  • Coordinates activity across Platform teams.


Problem Solving:

  • Accountable for solving problems and dealing with difficulties in line with policy, process and other guidelines applying technical knowledge and expertise.
  • Depending on the nature of the specific role, problems can range from repetitive daily issues to complex technical problems requiring significant expertise.
  • Escalate problems according to guidelines.


Key Deliverables:

  • All Aviva Standards that apply to IT Platforms (IT, BP) are met.
  • Gaps in IT and BP controls have plans to address.
  • Aviva estate is patched and maintained pro-actively in line with BP Standard.
  • IT Platforms Risks and Issues are clearly logged on iCare with plans to address.
  • Application DR plans are documented and actioned in line with agreed CIO and Business plans.
  • Transparency of reporting to CIOs on IT Platforms performance.
  • Effective MI to improve IT Platforms performance.
  • Clear plans to support Project Y.


Skills / Experience Required:


You should have some or all of the following:

  • Good understanding of IT delivery and operational services.
  • Strong commercial, financial and end-to-end performance understanding.
  • Experience within an environment where information security controls are applied.
  • Experience of managing applications estate.
  • Relationship management for senior internal and external relationships including effective influencing and negotiation.
  • Strong communication across all disciplines e.g. verbal, written, presentation.
